LOOKING FOR ADDITIONNAL OVERLANDER VEHICLES TO CONVOY CROSSING MYANMAR (from North India to Thailand) IN SEPTEMBER.
A group has just tried entering Myanmar straight at the border; impossible without going through an agency to obtain official permit. After several months of negociation, we think we have reached the lowest global rate possible, but obviously, the more vehicles we are in the convoy, the less the price per vehicle. We are presently 2 trucks, the meeting at Burma's boarder has been scheduled between the 1rst and the 15th of september 2013, but we need quick and serious answers to forward all the documents to the agency. Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram share a border with Myanmar, which has a large population of India-origin. India even shares a maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal with Myanmar.

The bus service will originate from Imphal and Mandalay and operate on Mondays. Passengers will be transferred at the cross-border points to a vehicle of the other country, given the variance in traffic procedures and driving styles — Myanmar has left-hand-driven vehicles.

The changeover will be made at Moreh (India) and Tamu (Myanmar) and it has been left to the local authorities to decide on convenient stoppage points on each route in consultation with operators.

There will, however, be no relaxation in customs, immigration and other formalities at the border.

Each passenger will be allowed to carry one luggage weighing no more than 20 kg, and up to two handbags if the passenger has a baby. No commercial cargo will be allowed.

The two governments will review the arrangement three months after the service begins to take stock of the share of traffic and frequency of service.

Route permit within Myanmar is to be given by its government while route permit within Imphal will be given by Manipur government. Passengers from both sides will have to go through check-in procedures by immigration officials at Moreh and Tamu. There is a 184-km stretch road that needs repair between Kalewa and Monywa on Myanmar side. Indian government had constructed 120 kms of the road stretch and the remaining portion is being left for Myanmar government as per agreement, the source added.

The proposed Imphal/Mandalaya bus is yet to take off and will take some more time.

As per the information received from Immigration Officer, posted at Moreh, a tourist with valid Myanmar visa can enter the interior part of the same country, provided he/she carries a special recommendation letter issued by Myanmar Embassy, addressed to the Deputy Commissioners office,Tamu, which is the nearest international border town, located around 4 k.m from Moreh.

From the Moreh border to Tamu there are 3 wheeler transport(tempo service) available, and other transport available for hire at Tamu.
