Die Pandemie (griechisch: pan = alles; demos = Volk) hat inzwischen über 160 Länder erreicht. Bis zum 18. Oktober wurden weltweit mehr als 414.945 Erkrankungen gemeldet, darunter 4.999 Todesfälle. Die Zahl der tatsächlich Infizierten dürfte deutlich höher sein.

As of 25 October 2009, worldwide there have been more than 440,000 laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1 2009 and over 5700 deaths reported to WHO.

As many countries have stopped counting individual cases, particularly of milder illness, the case count is likely to be significantly lower than the actual number of cases that have occurred. WHO is actively monitoring the progress of the pandemic through frequent consultations with the WHO Regional Offices and member states and through monitoring of multiple sources of data.

Situation update:

In the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere, influenza transmission continues to intensify marking an unusually early start to winter influenza season in some countries. In North America, the US, and parts of Western Canada continue to report high rates of influenza-like-illness (ILI) and numbers of pandemic H1N1 2009 virus detections; Mexico has reported more confirmed cases since September than during the springtime epidemic. In Western Europe, high rates of ILI and proportions of respiratory specimens testing positive for pandemic H1N1 2009 have been observed in at least five countries: Iceland, Ireland, the UK (N. Ireland), Belgium, and the Netherlands. Many other countries in Europe and Western and Central Asia are showing evidence of early influenza transmission, including in Spain, Austria, parts of Northern Europe, Russia, and Turkey. Hallo zusammen,

die Presse ist derzeit voll mit Meldungen über mit der Schweinegrippe Infizierte und Todesfälle. Die Entscheidung, sich impfen zu lassen, muss jede/r für sich selber treffen. Deshalb: Dies soll kein Aufruf zur Impfung sein, sondern lediglich zur Information dienen.

On 28 October 2009, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine informed WHO, through its Country Office in Ukraine, about an unusually high level of activity of acute respiratory illness in the western part of the country, associated with an increased number of hospital admissions and fatalities.

On 30 October 2009, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine announced the confirmation of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus infection by RT-PCR in eleven out of 30 samples obtained from patients presenting with acute respiratory illness in two of the most affected regions. Tests were performed in two laboratories in Kyiv, including the National Influenza Centre. Confirmatory tests will be performed at one of the WHO Collaborating Centres for Influenza.

The situation is quickly changing with increasingly high levels of acute respiratory illness (ARI)/Influenza-like-illness (ILI) activity being observed in Ternopil, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi regions. The higher levels of transmission in these regions corresponds to an increased number of hospital admissions and fatalities associated with severe manifestations of acute respiratory illness.

As of 30 October 2009, over 2,300 individuals have been admitted to hospital, including over 1,100 children. One hundred and thirty one (131) cases have required intensive care, including 32 children. As of 31 October 2009, a total of 38 fatalities associated with severe manifestations of ARI have been registered. Preliminary epidemiological data analysis indicates that severe cases and deaths primarily occur among previously healthy young adults aged 20 – 50 years. Ukraine: In der Ukraine ist es in der letzten Woche zu einem rasanten Anstieg der Fallzahlen gekommen. Bis zum 02. November wurden offiziell 190.000 Erkrankungen und 60 Todesfälle registriert. Wie viele davon durch die Neue Influenza verursacht wurden ist unklar. Betroffen sind insbesondere die westlichen Provinzen. Aktuell werden 7.500 Patienten in den Krankenhäusern behandelt, davon 100 auf Intensivstationen. Um den Ausbruch einzudämmen hat die Regierung alle Schulen für 3 Wochen geschlossen. Auch öffentliche Veranstaltungen wie Konzerte, Kinovorführungen, etc. wurden bis auf weiteres abgesagt. Die Ukraine bestellte in der Schweiz zudem 16 Tonnen des Grippemedikaments Tamiflu, der Vorrat solle für einen Monat reichen. / Quelle: crm

3 November 2009 -- According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the country has now recorded more than 250 000 cases of influenza-like illness, with 235 patients requiring intensive care. As of 2 November, 70 deaths from acute respiratory illness have been reported.

Regions in western Ukraine continue to show the highest rates of acute respiratory illness/influenza-like illness. The level of activity in the Kyiv area is also increasing rapidly.

Laboratory testing in Ukraine has confirmed pandemic H1N1 influenza virus in samples taken from patients in two of the most affected regions. As many countries have stopped counting individual cases, particularly of milder illness, the case count is likely to be significantly lower than the actual number of cases that have occurred. WHO is actively monitoring the progress of the pandemic through frequent consultations with the WHO Regional Offices and member states and through monitoring of multiple sources of data.

Situation update:

Intense and persistent influenza transmission continues to be reported in North America without evidence of a peak in activity. The proportion of sentinel physician visits due to influenza-like-illness (ILI)(8%) has exceeded levels seen over the past 6 influenza seasons; 42% of respiratory samples tested were positive for influenza and 100% of subtyped influenza A viruses were pandemic H1N1 2009. Rates of ILI, proportions of respiratory samples testing positive for influenza, and numbers of outbreaks in educational settings continues to increase sharply in Canada as activity spreads eastward. China - Einreisebestimmung

In letzter Zeit häuften sich unbestätigte Berichte, wonach eine Impfung gegen die Neue Influenza bei der Einreise nach China nachgewiesen werden muss. Die chinesische Botschaft in Berlin konnte dies auf Nachfrage des CRM jedoch nicht bestätigen. Nach Aussagen der Konsularabteilung ist die Impfung weiterhin freiwillig.

Pandemic (H1N1) 2009, Ukraine - update 2

Preliminary tests reveal no significant changes in the pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus based on investigations of samples taken from patients in Ukraine. Analyses are being performed by two WHO influenza collaborating centres as part of the global influenza surveillance network. Preliminary genetic sequencing shows that the virus is similar to the virus used for production of the pandemic influenza vaccine, reconfirming the vaccine's efficacy at this time. Additional questions about the pandemic virus circulating in Ukraine will be answered as more data is available. WHO commends the government of Ukraine for its open sharing of samples to inform global monitoring of the virus for signs of change. A total of 34 samples were analysed independently by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, Mill Hill in London, UK, and the WHO Collaborating Centre for the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Control of Influenza in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Alte Grippeinfektion immunisiert ein wenig gegen Schweinegrippe

Ähnlichkeiten zwischen dem Schweinegrippevirus und anderen Grippestämmen lassen vermuten, dass Teile der Bevölkerung gegen die neue Infektion gut gewappnet sind. Das berichtet eine amerikanische Forschergruppe um Bjoern Peters vom La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology in Kalifornien, USA. Bei einem Tel. gesten Abend hörte ich, dass dort in Tunesien die ersten beiden Schweine( )-Grippe-Toten zu beklagen sind. (Da muss man ja befürchten, dass selbst die Ächtung dieser Fleischsorte nicht als Schutz geeignet ist .)

Es werden sogar seit Anfang September an den intern. Flughäfen von Tunesien sog. "Srchweinegrippeschnelltests" mittels einem Teststreifen bei der Einreise gemacht.
