"Prehistoric rock painting vandalized: Cavour complex, Western Alps, Italy
Piero Ricchiardi & Dario Seglie CeSMAP, Study Center and Museum of Prehistoric Art, Pinerolo, Italy
In March 2009, unknown vandals placed white varnish graffiti on the rocky surface that support, during the last 6 millennia, a complex of schematic composition with anthropomorphic figures and symbols. These prehistoric paintings were discovered in the 970's of the last century by the authors of this communication, in the field of the CeSMAP territorial archaeological surveys.
This site, connected with the VBQ Culture of the Rocca of Cavour, V millennium b. C., is the only one Neolithic painting evidence in the Alps, and is placed near the far East border of the so-called Mediterranean Prehistoric Province, encompassing the East of the Spain and the South of the France.
This ulterior vandal attack to the ancient legacy and trace of the Human spirituality, demand a strong intervention by the Local, National and International Authorities, to promote awareness of our common Cultural Heritage, particularly with a pedagogic - scholastic programs, for our children and for the children's children."
