AMMAN - Tourism officials have set up a plan to develop services offered to visitors of the rock-engraved city of Petra in a bid to sustain growth at the old Nabataean city, an official said today. The plan includes posting signs addressing visitors to inform them of what they expect from tourism agency and all types of services they are entitled to during their stay, said Suleiman Farajat, head of the Petra Archaeological Park. The vast city of Petra has many trails for walking and many tourists face danger therefore restrictions have been placed on their movement for their safety, with signs telling them where they can walk on their own and when they have to use local guides, said Farajat. "We want to make the experience of visitors as fruitful and enjoyable as possible," said the official, noting that the government has been undertaking an aggressive campaign to educate local staff on how to deal with tourists ... mehr

TOURISM: JORDAN, 34 MLN EUROS FOR VILLAGE AT PETRA

AMMAN - By the end of this year work could begin on the construction, close to Petra, one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, on a tourist village for the total cost of about 50 million dollars. The village, which is scheduled for completion just 30 months after placing the first stone, will include, reports the Italian Trade Commission (ICE) in Amman, a five star hotel and a multi-use conference hall, as well as other structures. The project, illustrated by the commercial director of Pharaon Investment Group, Sheikh Ghaith R. Pharaon, also includes a shopping area, an artisans' market, restaurants, a wellness centre and swimming pools. The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Maha Khatib, who signed the agreement with Pharaon for the creation of the project, said that the government has received the necessary guarantees to protect the archaeological site and the surrounding environment, which is one of the new seven wonders of the world. The project, she said, will contribute to the creation of jobs for the residents of the area and attract more tourists. 15% of the turnover from the hotel, Khatib specified, will be allocated to the development of the local community.

Im ersten Moment lese ich 50m Millionen Dollar...Investition...Petra...

Und sofort schießt mir durch den Kopf:
Yeah!! Sie bauen endlich Toiletten überall hin, damit die Touris und die wilden Händler nicht alles vollscheißen.
Yeah!!! Sie bauen Rolltreppen, damit die fetten Touristen nicht mehr auf die klapperdürren Pferde und Mulis gesetzt werden.

Und...und...und...


Aber dann:
Wellness!
Luxushotel!
Shopping Mall!

Macht nur weiter so, liebe Mods- solche Meldungen kommen mir heute gerade richtig, lach!

Leider gibt es zum Jahresende schlechte Nachrichten aus Jordanien: Die Eintrittspreise für Petra steigen in naher Zukunft massiv an. Die Essentials sind in diesen beiden "Flyern" enthalten:





Was zunächst nach einer Preissenkung aussieht, gilt nur für wenige Wochen: Schon im März sollen die Preise für Tagestouristen von 19 auf 39 JD (entspricht in etwa Euro), ab 1. November dann auf sagenhafte 69 JD klettern.

Viele andere Dinge sind noch unklar. Zum Beispiel geht aus dem zweiten Flyer nicht eindeutig hervor, ob die schönen Stiegen zum Kloster und zum Sacrifice Point dann überhaupt noch frei begehbar sein werden oder obligatorisch die dort beschriebenen zusätzlichen 20 JD kosten werden.

Trotzdem allen Jordanien-Reisenden und Wüstenschiffern ein gutes und vor allem friedliches 2010 wünscht aus Amman

WIE SICH DIE ZEITEN DOCH ÄNDERN.... .
Ich hab Petra anders in Erinnerung: neben ein paar Ziegenhirten mitten in Petra gezeltet und zwischen den Tempeln übernachtet. Mutterseelenallein mit Freundin.
Ist allerdings schon ne Weile her.

Neues aus Petra, manches gut, preislich weiterhin nicht so doll: Immerhin steigen die Preise nicht wie Anfang des Jahres angekündigt, auf 98 JD (= 102 Euro), sondern "nur" auf 50 JD (= 53 Euro), aber das ist auch reichlich! Der im ersten Artikel angegebene Betrag von 90 JD bezieht sich auf Tagestouristen, die vom Sinai oder aus Israel zum Kurzbesuch kommen. Das dürfte auf Wüschis ja nicht zutreffen

Immerhin gibt es Bemühungen, die Serviceleistungen zu verbessern, ein "Exit-Gate" einzurichten (würde den Rückweg ersparen), neue Trails zu öffnen, etc. Der wichtigste Tipp ist immer noch, morgens in aller Herrgottsfrühe in den Siq zu gehen, wenn die Pauschaltouris noch schlummern.

Also der aktuelle Ticketpreis für den Tagestouri ist 60,- JD.
Tagestouri ist jeder, der keine Hotelübernachtung nachweisen
kann. Dann würde es nur 35 JD kosten.

Wir sind daher nicht "drin" gewesen, da Ich das persönlich
für Geldschneiderei halte.

AMMAN - Regional political turmoil has lead to a 19 % drop in the number of tourists arriving to the red rose city of Petra, official figures showed today. Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abu Ghanam said 154,439 tourists visited Petra between January and March this year compared to 191,255 in the same period of 2010. Noch sind trotz der Rückgänge die Hotels in Petra, vor allem in der Oberklasse gut gebucht. In Spitzenzeiten waren Touristengruppen in Stadthotels in Aqaba ausquartiert worden, weil Überbuchungen gemanagt werden mussten. Diese Spitzen gibt es nicht mehr. Aber 100 Prozent Auslastung reichen auch. Durch die aktuellen Stornierungen in Syrien könnte der Almabtrieb im Canyon (Siq) in den nächsten Wochen allerdings ein wenig ruhiger verlaufen ...

Ich sehe gerade erst, dass falsche Eintrittspreise gepostet wurden: Der Eintritt für Übernachtungsgäste beträgt 50 JD, für Tagestouristen 90 JD (= gleicher Preis in Euro). Dies ist in der Tat Beutelschneiderei und Petra gilt als überteuertste Sehenswürdigkeit der Welt. Das Problem: Ein Highlight ist es trotzdem ...

Hallo,

habe gerade vor 5 Tagen mein Ticket bezahlt. Mir scheint, dass die 90 JD niemand bezahlt, denn es fragt auch niemand nach Tagestourist oder Hotelgast. 55 JD sind es für zwei Tage, mag ja auch von Interesse sein.

Das aktuelle Zeitraffer-Video des Jordan Tourism Board zu Petra würde mich eher abschrecken, als zu einem Besuch animieren ... aber schaut selber
