Cairo over the weekend will host the first 'Pharaohs Golden Parade' during which regal mummies from ancient Egypt will be transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir square, in the center of the Egyptian capital, to their final destination, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (Nmec), in the southeastern outskirts of the city. The event will take place at 6 pm on Saturday, April 3. A total of 22 mummies (18 kings and four queens) from the dynasties XVII-XX will be moved. They include those of king Seqenenre, who started the war of liberation against the Hyksos; queen Hatshepsut, to whom is dedicated the magnificent temple of Deir Al-Bahari on the western bank of the Nile, in front of Luxor; of Ramses II, the great pharaoh of the New Kingdom. The parade of mummies, which will be held along the Nile on carriages planned for the event and pulled by horses, will evoke the era of ancient Egypt, when kings and queens were transported to their tombs towards eternity. The event will last for about 45 minutes and will be accompanied by gun salutes and fireworks which have been announced as "magnificent". Celebrations have been scheduled during the event although the public will be limited due to anti-Covid restrictions.
