ein grosser Umweg, um nach Wadi Halfa zu kommen - ausser sie wollten diesen Tempel besuchen,
der war ziemlich wichtig und lag an einer alten "Hauptstrasse"

Mit den Namen oben komme ich grad nicht weiter - im Ungarischen werden sie wahrscheinlich etwas anders geschrieben. Aber auch wenn ich im Buch alle "Wadi" durchgehe, dann komme ich nicht auf etwas, was ähnlich tönt...

A good idea, but I'm afraid a false trail. Almasy/Esterhazy never went into the Eastern Desert, they drove down to Aswan along the Nile, from there they took the Nile ferry to Wadi Halfa, and on the return journey the car was shipped from Port Sudan to Suez. Also Esterhazy used Antal as the principal name so A.E. (or in correct hungarian order E.A. would have been the correct initial).

Oh dear, got myself in trouble again ... and I haven't even mentioned yet that I'm just back from the Tibesti ...

I have not found any trail yet that would fit A.P. but looking. The best candidates are either someone from the Desert Survey or possibly a British officer who owned a car.

It would have been too good if the above "rock art" could have been attributed to one of the early expeditions.
