Representatives of Majees village in Sohar on Wednesday met Col Abdullah al Ghilani, ROP commander of North Batinah governorate, to discuss the incidents related to ‘car drifting sessions’ taking place near the village entrance. The meeting, according to Nasser al Sawwafi, a resident and Imam of the village, was held to discuss the problems associated with the activity. Sawwafi, who also represented the village, said the meeting also discussed the approach of security personnel during the two recent clashes that took place while dispersing spectators gathered at the entrance of the village on the first and the second day of Eid on August 9 and 10. The first clash took place after midnight on August 9, when anti-riot forces used tear gas to disperse a gathering near the village entrance after a drifting session had ended. The group retaliated by throwing stones. A similar incident took place at around 3:30pm next day, when too anti-riot forces reportedly used tear gas to disperse spectators of a drifting session at the same spot.
