TOURISM: EGYPT BANS SALE OF GUIDE DU ROUTARD
24.04.2009 - ANSAmed
PARIS - Egypt's board of censors has banned the sale of the 'Guide du Routard' dedicated to the country. According to weekly paper L'Express which carries the news, the guide includes a map on which the Halaib triangle (a desert frontier regions claimed since 1902 by Egypt and Sudan) is shown as a contended area and where the political and administrative borders are clearly separate. This is unacceptable for the government in Cairo which rules the region with military force. The paper states that last year the army had ordered the immediate destruction of all maps mentioning Halaib as a separate territory, and specified in a statement that "any media which does not comply with these instructions will be deemed to be an enemy of the State".
