TRANSPORT: GRANDI NAVI VELOCE EXPANDS IN FRANCE, HUB AT SETE

GENOA - The shipping company Grandi Navi Veloce (GNV) is expanding in France. A memorandum of understanding between GNV and the region of Languedoc-Roussillon was signed yesterday at the port of Sete, near Marseille, setting up passenger and cargo services with the Maghreb. Morocco alone represents a potential market of 1.6 million passengers for Sete and in 2007 the port only managed to cater for just over one sixth of that number. In all the region of Languedoc-Roussillon plans 200 million euros investments in the port of Sete over the next 10 years. GNC, which already links Genoa to Tunisia, Civitavecchia and Palermo, and Tangiers with Genoa and Barcelona, wants to make Sete the hub of its activity in France starting from next autumn ... mehr

Ferry plans back on track

Reports say plans by Mediterranean ferry operator to start a new service between France and North Africa are back on track. TRANSPORT: MOROCCO, NEW GNV SHIPPING ROUTE LAUNCHED

RABAT - The Italian shipping line, Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), will set up a new route that will connect Morocco with the French port of Sete from the autumn. The news was reported today by the MAP press agency, which quotes the news initially reported by the French economic daily newspaper, Les Echos. GNV currently has twice-weekly connections with Tangiers with two lines leaving from Genoa and Barcelona.

MILAN - In the spring of 2011 Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) will launch a new connection between the French port of Sete and the Port of Tangiers in Morocco, and in 2012 the group will launch a Sete-Oran (Algeria) line, announced the company's General Manager, Ariodante Valeri, speaking today in Milan at a press conference.
