eine meldung, die mir einerseitz freude andererseits auch besorgnis um die sicherheitslage der touris macht, hoffentlich wird das nicht von extremlingen ausgenutzt :?

Hallo zusammen,

kann es sein, dass es hier um die Gewinnmaximierung der Reiseveranstalter - viele ansässig in Europa - geht? Die Menschen vor Ort haben wenig bis nichts von dieser Art des Tourismus. Z. B. sind die meisten der Pauschaltouristen nicht einmal im Besitz von Ägyptischem Geld, und geben Trinkgeld oder bezahlen Souvenirs in Euro. Was soll ein Einheimischer mit Ein- oder Zwei-Euro-Münzen? Die kann er niergendwo wechseln, außer er versucht's bei Alleinreisenden (wir sind da schon öfters angesprochen worden). In wie weit es dem Normalbürger möglich ist, Euro-Scheine bei einer Bank einzutauschen, weiß ich nicht. Es ist allerdings denkbar, dass es nicht so einfach funktioniert oder massiven Gebühren dafür fällig werden.

Strandurlauber am Roten Meer sehen u. U. außer ihrer Hotelanlage und der Unterwasserwelt (falls sie eine Schnorchel- oder Tauchtour gebucht haben) nichts vom Land. Viele Hotels bieten zwar Tagesausflüge mit dem Bus nach Luxor an. Per Konvoi - bis zu 90 (!) Bussen - geht's an den Nil. Dort angekommen, werden die Touristen mehr oder weniger duch die Palast- und Grabanlagen geschleust.

Aber auch diejenigen, die in Ägypten von dem Tourismus profitieren, denken nicht langfristig. Sie lassen zu, dass ihre Jahrtausend alten Kulturdenkmäler von so vielen Touristen besichtigt werden, dass diese darunter leiden (z. B. Farben in den Gräbern). Auch hier geht es um die momentane Gewinnmaximierung. Manchmal hat man fast den Eindruck, die Einheimischen "verkaufen" sich und ihre Kultur für den Erhalt des vermeindlich glücklich machenden Geldes.

Eine Lösung des Problems?
Ein Ansatz wäre es vielleicht, diejenigen die vor Ort (in dem Fall in Ägypten) vom Tourismus leben, zum Thema "Nachhaltiger Tourismus" zu schulen.
Es müssen einheimische Unternehmen vor Ort in Anspruch genommen werden, um diese zu fördern.
Die Verantwortung liegt hier nicht zuletzt bei den Reiseveranstaltern. Sie sollten/müssen: Ihre Kunden (also die Touristen) über die Gegebenheiten des Landes zu informieren - und zwar über das hinaus, was in "Marco Polo"-Reiseführern steht und wie voraussichtlich das Wetter vor Ort sein wird. Dazu gehören zum Beispiel: Informationen über die Kultur, die Religion der bereisten Region geben und Respekt vor dem Naturraum und der Bevölkerung vermitteln.
Das Land nicht einfach nur benutzen.

TOURISM: EGYPT; 123 PROJECTS PLANNED ON THE NORTH COAST

(ANSAmed) - CAIRO´- A total of 123 projects worth 8.5 milliards euro - will be carried out to establish resorts on the North Coast with 43.000 tourist rooms, says Al Akhbar daily. The projects will create 72.000 job opportunities during the coming three years. Some 496 investors applied to clear landmines planted on the north coast. The landmines were planted in Egypt more than 50 years ago during World War ll.

TOURISM: EGYPTIAN RESORTS TO EXPAND IN RED SEA

CAIRO - Egyptian Resorts Group is negotiating two new projects on Egypt's Red Sea and studying another on the North coast to build on the country's growing tourism sector, Chairman Ibrahim Kamel said. Kamel added that his company was talking with Rowad Tourism (Al Rowad) to develop a 4 million square metre piece of land in Dahab and had applied to develop land in Ras Benas, also on the Red Sea [...] The Egyptian economy grew at an annualised rate of 7.5% in the January-March 2008 quarter, faster than the government had predicted. Tourism was the fastest growing sector at between 23 and 27%. According to a government plan announced in April, Egypt hopes to boost its tourism earnings by 26% to 12 billion dollars by 2011, and to welcome some 14 million tourists in 2011, requiring a capacity of 240,000 hotel rooms, compared with 11 million in 2007.

Aufgrund der Entführung von Touristen in Ägypten macht Ägypten sich nun Sorgen um die Auswirkungen auf den Tourismus:

In einem Artikel der taz vom 23.09.2008 heißt es:

[...] Sorgen machen sich die Ägypter jetzt vor allem über die Auswirkungen auf den Tourismus. Immerhin elf Millionen Touristen besuchten im letzten Jahr das Land am Nil. Der Chef des Stadtrates von Luxor, Samir Farag, wies darauf hin, dass die Sicherheitsvorkehrungen auf den großen Straßen des südlichen Oberägyptens verstärkt worden. "Bisher ist der Tourismus in Luxor vollkommen normal", beteuert er. Auch das Tourismusministerium betont, dass es sich bei dem Wüstentourismus in entlegenen Gebieten des Landes um eine kleine Nische handele, da sich derartige Reisen, die im Schnitt 10.000 Dollar bei einer Buchung in Europa kosten, nur sehr wenige leisten könnten. Betont wird auch, dass der Ort der Entführung viele hunderte Kilometern entfernt liegt von den Touristenzentren des Landes im Niltal oder gar dem Sinai und dem Roten Meer [...]

TOURISM IN EGYPT NOT AFFECTED BY SWINE FLU, OFFICIAL

CAIRO - Chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, Amr el-Azabi said that so far, the tourism in the country is not affected by the outbreak of the deadly swine flu virus nationwide. At a press conference, as Mena news agency reports, on the sidelines of his visit to Bahrain, Azabi described his visit to the kingdom as historic, saying it coincides with Bahrain's scrap of kafil (sponsor) system. The number of worldwide tourists reached 924 million last year, with a 1.8% increase, Azabi said. In Egypt, the number of tourists rose by 25%, however, the global financial crisis led to a drop in this percentage, Azabi added. Last year, Egypt received 12.8 million tourists, he said, adding the number of tourist nights reached 129.2 million, with a total revenue amounting to 11 billion dollars. The hotel capacity stood at 211,000 rooms, Azabi underlined. The Tourism Ministry had outlined a plan to increase the number of tourists who visited Egypt annually to 14 million by the target year of 2011, he added.

CAIRO - Egypt's tourism numbers have seen a decline in the first four months of 2009 due to the effects of the global financial slowdown. The numbers for the first four months of 2009 show a 13.2% drop in the number of tourist nights compared to the same period in 2008, while the number of tourist arrivals during the same period has declined 10.3% to 3.67 million arrivals. EGYPT: TOURISM SECTOR WITNESSED REMARKABLE PROGRESS, MINISTER

CAIRO - Egyptian Tourism Minister Zoheir Garana said today that the tourism sector in Egypt witnessed a remarkable progress and an increase in economic growth rate which reached 10 percent last year. The tourism sector represented nearly 19.3 percent of foreign currency revenues and 7 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), Garana said. The number of tourists, who visited Egypt annually, increased by 15.3 percent to reach 12.8 million, he added. In 2008, tourism revenues amounted to nearly 10.9 billion dollars, at a 15.9 percent increase compared to the previous year, Garana said. He underlined that 64 percent of tourists coming to Egypt are from 10 countries; Russia, Germany, Britain, Italy, Poland, France, Ukraine, Libya, Saudi Arabia and the United States.

CAIRO - Egypt is seeking to promote environmental tourism - good examples of which are diving, mountain-climbing and safari - the environment minister announced today. In a meeting with Japanese businessman, Toshio Motoya, the minister Maged George discussed means by which to develop sustainable tourism in Egypt. More than two million holiday-makers visit Egypt annually, George said, adding that those have many alternatives as far as environmental tourism is concerned. Tourists can go bird-watching in Egypt, a stop for some 470 immigrant birds, the minister told Motoya, the CEO of APA Group in Japan. CAIRO - Egypt's tourism revenue in 2009 declined by 2.1%, which was not interpreted as negative by Tourism Minister Zoheir Garana, considering the global economic crisis, compounded by the threat of swine flu, which led to a decline in travelling. Revenue for the sector, one of the main sources of foreign currency for Egypt, totalled 10.76 billion dollars in 2009, according to data provided by Minister Garana. "It is a nice performance for our country's tourism sector despite the global crisis and swine flu epidemic," commented Garana, quoted by Mena. About 12.5 million tourists visited Egypt last year, over 2 million of which came from Russia. In 2010, said the minister, Egypt hopes to attract 14 million tourists and take in 1.5 billion dollars in revenue in the sector.
