In Mali verbessert sich die Sicherheitslage auch nicht. Es gab einen Anschlag auf die Blauhelmtruppe und ein Tuareg, der mit den Franzosen sympatisierte wurde enthauptet.

Bamako/Paris - Ein in Mali verschleppter Tuareg ist nach Angaben aus Sicherheitskreisen von mutmaßlichen Verbündeten der Al-Kaida enthauptet worden. Insgesamt seien in der vergangenen Woche fünf Männer verschleppt worden, die angeblich Informanten der französischen Truppen in der Region seien, hieß es am Mittwoch in den Kreisen weiter. Es sieht so aus, als hätten die Behörden den Mörder des französischen Bergführers identifizieren können. So soll es sich bei dem Mörder um Bachir Kherza, einem "Mufti" der Dschihadistengruppe Dschund al-Khilafa (Soldaten des Kalifats) handelt, so die Zeitung al Watan.

Nach der Enthauptung Hervé Gourdels durch IS Sympatisanten in Alergien durchsuchten 3000 Soldaten das Gebiet nach den Mördern. Bisher leider ohne Erfolg.

Der Kopf der Terrorbande und drei weitere Terroristen, die in die Entführung und Enthauptung des Bergführers Herve Gourdel in Algerien verwickelt waren, wurden vom algerischen Militär getötet.

Die algerische Armee hat nach eigenen Angaben den Anführer der Jihadistengruppe Jund al-Khilafa getötet, die einen Franzosen entführt und getötet hatte. Abdelmalek Gouri sei bei einem nächtlichen Einsatz in der Stadt Isser getötet worden, bei dem insgesamt "drei Terroristen" getötet worden seien, gab die Armee am Dienstag bekannt. Al Qaeda's North African wing claims two Algerian attacks
The North African wing of al Qaeda has claimed two attacks on Algerian military and security forces in the east of the country that killed at least five people, the U.S.-based SITE jihadist monitoring service said on Sunday.

Libya: Daesh Growing in Libya, but Airstrikes May be Pushing Militants toward the Sahel
Concern over Libya has increased substantially recently with militants transferring from the heated battlefields of the Middle East to North Africa. The doubling of combatants flowing into Libya has raised concern that the region is the next hotspot picked by the Islamic State to expand its operations. The various international meetings on Libya that have taken place lately highlight a sense of urgency among neighboring countries, western powers, in particular nearby Europe, but also the United States and Russia as to preventing the Islamic State organization (Daesh) from establishing a wider front in North Africa. Daesh is turning out to be more resilient and harder to defeat and any strengthening of its presence in Libya will mean that has now taken its fight to Africa. Algeria’s New Intelligence Services and Expectations (Premium Content)
MEA Risk Premium Content: President Bouteflika’s Chief of Staff, ex-Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia has confirmed the dissolution of the DRS intelligence service. Ouyahia says the order came in the form of a non-publishable decree, however the DRS functions will continue through three separate General Directorates (GDs) reporting directly to the Presidency. Ouyahia stated that the process of transforming and restructuring the intelligence services began in 2013, and concluded today with the replacement of the DRS by three units. They are Directorate of Domestic Security (DDS), the Directorate of Documentation and External Security (DDES) and the Directorate of Technical Intelligence (DTI), most likely a unit tasked to handle technological and cyber security. However, the actions of the authorities themselves do not bode well for any industry recovery in the foreseeable future. Tunisia Security Update
Tunisia is facing a multi-faceted crisis, top of which is the ongoing unemployment protests that highlight the weakening of the Tunisian economic systems and a reduction in social safety nets. With social tension at its peak, the threat of radical militants from within and from Libya can overwhelm the government of Tunisia relatively quickly if a political solution to broad social and economic problems are not put forward. For the period of February 01, 2016 to February 07, 2016, there were 45 critical incidents in Tunisia, resulting in 10 deaths, 1 wounded, and 67 arrests. As a result, the CIncidents Index for the period was 2.02, reflecting the high-risk zone for the country. Security & Defense operations accounted for 28.89% of the total pool of incidents, while Terrorism shrank to only 2.22%. Egypt Security Update
For the period of February 1, 2016 to February 7, 2016, Egypt witnessed 61 critical incidents, resulting in 63 deaths, 50 wounded, and 107 arrests. As a result, the Incidents Index for the period was 2.15, positioning the country as an extreme high-risk zone. The share of human & social-related incidents reached 47.54% of all the combined pool of incidents highlighting how governance problems and insecurity are affecting the country’s social environment. Security & defense-related events accounted for 16.39% and Terrorism accounted for 9.84%. The country’s problems have been essentially the same over the previous period, but this week we noticed a spike in militant activity claiming the lives of many security officers and troops. Civilians in the North Sinai region continued to be the target of attacks from both the military and insurgents, as 10 civilians lost their lives in the Rafah region due to the ongoing conflict pitting militants aligned with IS with the Egyptian military. Algerian security forces shot dead an Islamist militant wearing a suicide bomb belt before he could detonate his explosives in a small town east of the capital Algiers, the state news agency APS said on Thursday. The militant had been evading Algerian troops patrolling on Wednesday night around Maatkas near Tizi Ouzou in the mountainous region in what was once the stronghold of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. "Trapped by the army, he headed toward the police station in Maatkas, where he was probably planning to blow himself up," [...] The last attempted suicide attack in Algeria was also in Tizi Ouzou in 2011 when a militant tried to drive a bomb-packed truck into a police headquarters there, injuring 29 people.

A suicide bomber was killed by the police in the commune of Maatkas, province of Tizi Ouzou, at 11pm on March 23. The man was wearing an explosive belt, and was in possession of a Kalashnikov rifle, a hand grenade and ammunition. The bomber, who was not from Maatkas, was the subject of a manhunt led by the army, the gendarmerie and the local population. His affiliation remains unknown, but he is suspected of being a militant of the pro-IS group Jund al-Khalifa.

In einem neuen Audio, veröffentlicht durch den IS im Internet, droht die Terrorgruppe Anschläge auf Einrichtungen der UN, Touristen, marokkanische Sicherheitseinrichtungen und ausländische Firmen in der West Sahara zu verüben.

Es sieht so aus, als würde sich der IS, neben AQIM im Maghreb breitmachen.

Die algerische Armee hat ein Waffenlager in einem Bunker in Bordj Badji Mokhtar/Provinz Adrar nahe der Grenze zu Mali entdeckt

Algerian army troops deployed on the southern borderline of the country on Tuesday discovered war weapons in a bunker in the locality of Bordj Badji Mokhtar, near the border with Mali. "Following a reconnaissance patrol and part of army efforts to securing border and fighting against terrorism, a bunker containing a large number of arms and ammunition, was discovered in the locality of Bordj Badji Mokhtar in the province of Adrar, 1543 km southwest Algiers," Defense Ministry said in a statement. The source specified that the troops retrieved missile launching pad, 12 tubes (107-mm), one BM-21 missile, two FMPK machine guns, one RPK machine guns, two Kalashnikov submachine guns and two repeating rifles, in addition to nine 120-mm mortar shells, six 76-mm cannon shells, and bullets of different calibers.

Algeria: 3 soldiers, 6 insurgents killed in fresh Bouira clashes

MEA Risk. Bouira, Algeria. May 21st, 2016. In the last 48 hours, three soldiers and six Islamic insurgents were killed in in the forest massif of Errich, province of Bouira, in skirmishes opposing the army with two AQIM brigades that recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State . More than 4,000 army troops are mobilized in the ongoing large-scale sweep operation.
